The experts agree that a National Curriculum is the way forward for Australia. A standardised national curriculum would allow for greater integration of the education system and ensure that no child is left behind. The Gonski Report outlined that Australia needed a National Curriculum, but the Federal Government has failed to gain enough support from the states to allow the Gonski reforms to come into effect. NSW Liberal Premier, Barry O'Farrell has agreed to the reforms, and signed on, but people like Campbell Neumann (QLD Liberal Premier) have kept the project from coming into effect by not allowing for his state to sign on. Now, with the new Liberal government, the future of the Gonski Reforms is uncertain. The basis of Neumann's abstinence would appear to simply be based on Liberal/Labor rivalry and State governments' reluctance to give the Federal Government more power. This could be solved by having State governments form a committee devoted to establishing a National Curriculum, so that politics doesn't get in the way of a well rounded education...
