Prolonged Sitting
Sitting. We all love to sit, relax, do nothing, but that word, nothing. Nothing. Nothing means you are not moving, or making yourself useful. Now associated with obesity and other health issues, prolonged sitting can make you unhealthy. It was proven by Australian scientist that for every 3 hours you sit in a chair and do nothing (or well, just sit in a chair), your life expectancy goes down by 22 minutes. This is crazy, because as well as life expectancy going down, you gain weight, lack of vitamin D (if you are inside) and more health issues. This brings us to school. With each period being 50 - 60 minutes, 4 periods is 3 hours, and a total time you sit during school is basically 5 hours. School, not school, we all need to get out of our chairs, get outside and do exercise and whatnot. What are you thoughts on this topic?
It is proposed that we need to stop prolonged sitting and encourage more activity.
