My name is Peter. I'm 16 and I am wondering what the future holds.
I have two bothers in their twenties. Both have good university degrees but one has been out of work for the last three months and the other has been laid off as his company undertook 'restructuring'. They are both pretty disillusioned and are wondering why they bothered going to Uni at all. They are both at home with me since they can't even afford to rent never mind buy a house in Sydney.
Just today Dad came home really upset - now he's just been made redundant too - from an investment company. They paid him off with a year's salary but that hasn't made Dad happy.
I don't know what to do myself now. With everything changing so much - and with wars and financial collapses - should I focus on the future, try hard, go to study at university and make plans or should I leave school now and learn a trade? I figure maybe I should do that because while I won't get rich if I have a trade I should always have a job.
Thing is I am good at school stuff - always getting As and I really did want to go to Uni to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics - I'd love that. But would it get me a job at the end of it?
What do you think? Do you agree with my plan below?
