We all know a concept called 'Human Rights' - fundamental things each and every human being is entitled to, such as the right to life, food, education. However, what criteria do we fulfil as humans to be entitled to these rights - is it it because of our intelligence? (What about babies, and the mentally disabled?) Is it because of our ability to be self-conscious, and our sentience? (Animals often display reasonable levels of self-awareness and sentience?) Or is it simply because we are humans, and we feel we should encompass all with the same standard of rights?
It is proposed that society should look deeper at why we give rights to people.
