PRACTICE CASE FOR NEW USERS
Glen is the local health promotion adviser and the volunteer coach for the ‘Soccerjacks’ – the school football team from the small northern town of Cooktown's primary school. The Saturday morning soccer practice and Saturday afternoon games in the local league are a big part of the weekends for many of Cooktown’s families.

Cooktown is in a low socio-economic area and for most of the children in the team, their parents cannot afford to buy them a team strip. Glen has also been having trouble finding transport to get the team to games and the Soccerjacks have had to miss a couple of away games this season. As a result of these problems, the soccerjacks are at the bottom of the table, team morale is low, and children are starting to drop out of the team.

Glen is starting to wonder whether the team can continue when he has a chat with Gary. Gary is the father of the newest boy on the team. Gary and his family have just moved to Cooktown.

Gary is the manager of ‘Top Burger’ - the new fast food restaurant which has just opened in town. Gary has offered to pay for a new team strip for the team and to fund a minibus to take the team to away games. In return, Gary has asked that ‘Top Burger’ be advertised on the team strip and at the soccer pitch.

Glen has reservations about whether to accept Gary’s offer. In his role as community health promotion adviser, Glen is involved in the cardiac rehabilitation programme and is all too aware of the effects of fast food on health. Glen is concerned that they should not be promoting fast food to young children in their community. Glen has come to you for advice. What do you think?
It is proposed that sponsorship will be accepted
